Internet access has become increasingly important. For US Military Personnel, surfing is important not only for their professional activities, but even for their personal communication and connection needs. When they need to connect to any US websites for personal use, they should not use their military computer or a military network for obvious reasons. They have to use other means that will hide their identity, keeping both their military connection and personal identities unknown to anyone. In today’s dangerous world, it’s always good for these servicemen and woman to keep a low profile. They are targets both in and out of uniform. Keeping them safe is a priority for the US Military. It’s also incumbent upon them to keep themselves safe.
Thus they have found the use of personal laptops and an anonymous proxy to be the best solution. Most Military personnel outside of the U.S. today have their own laptops which they use these to access non military channels and websites. They use their own laptops when they need to access US websites, watch US TV, or communicate with loved ones. Although they could use military computers, the risk of using a military connection for personal use cannot be taken too lightly. One can end up to some website that has malicious intent. Important information such as logins, passwords, and credit card numbers could easily leak and thus could expose them to disaster.
Even worse, if a military computer got compromised because of personal use. Using their own personal laptops, these military personnel “disconnect” their personal surfing activities from their military identity. Since their personal laptops use a different network, it would be impossible for malicious websites to get classified information stored in military computers or networks. Any serviceman or woman around the world who does not own a laptop will find it more difficult to connect to the world. He or she cannot rely on using his military computer or network alone. For one who owns a laptop, they can use an anonymous proxy for anonymous surfing as an extra line of protection. They do not only hide their identity but also set a second level of security by not being visible as military personnel, but just as an unknown user. This way, they can enjoy surfing without the fear of being tracked or prowled upon.
