If you are staying in a house with subsoil basement, you need to take
note of the basement
waterproofing. It is important as it helps to prevent water from
penetrating into your basement area. This will avoid wet
basements issues. Among them include the damage to the household
furniture as well as the structure of the house.
There are a lot of different basement waterproofing products that are
in the construction industry. However, you will find that there are
generally three types of basement
waterproofing systems that are effective in preventing the
penetration of water into your basement area.
First of all, it is the Tanking system. It involves the substance or
membrane being bonded to the outside of your basement. This will help to
prevent the water flow into your basement area. Generally, this method
is the most popular ones and is always used during the initial
construction phase of your house. If this method is found to be
effective, other basement
waterproofing systems are not required.
Secondly, it is the Cavity Drainage System. When your basement is
constructed you will have a thin plastic honeycomb membrane installed on
the walls and floors. The floors will be sloped toward the sump pump so
that any water that ingresses into your basement structure can be
promptly removed.
For those of you who are staying in the country that receive heavy
downpours, you will need the third waterproofing method which is the
Exterior Foundation Drain. The drain is a system that is built on the
outside wall of your foundation and diverts water through a ground
drainage system away from the basement walls. Normally, the Tanking
system is used together with the Exterior Foundation Drain for
waterproofing.
