If you are complaining of an itchy rash on your skin, accompanied by
a linear pattern of red raised bumps, then the chances are you’ve been
bitten by bed bugs.
The bed bug is a flattened, wingless, reddish brown insect with
piercing mouth parts, used to suck the blood from humans and other
warm-blooded animals.
In this day and age, with so many technological and scientific
advances, it is hard to believe that we could fall victim, in our own
homes, to thousands of tiny little critters delightedly sucking on our
blood, akin to a fleet of miniature vampires!
However, in the past ten years, the increase in bed bugs making an
appearance in homes throughout Western society is rapidly rising. There
are a number of reasons for this, namely the increase in affordable
travel around the world and the fact that the insecticide sprays, which
were commonly used to kill cockroaches, used to also destroy bedbugs in
the process. Approximately ten years ago these spray insecticides were
discontinued and the products now used to kill cockroaches and other
common pests, don’t affect bedbugs, therefore they’ve been left in
peace to continue breeding.
If you discover your property has an infestation then you must immediately make an effort to get rid of bed bugs.
The first thing you can do is stock up on over-the-counter aerosols
specifically designed to kill them. These are great for killing the
bugs you can see, or indeed getting into small cracks and crevices that
might be storing eggs. The use of aerosols, also gives you reassurance
that you are doing something to halt the problem before it gets any
worse.
Although bed bug bites
can be painful and irritating, it is sometimes the emotional turmoil
attached to an infestation of bedbugs that is worse for the inhabitants
of the infested area, than the actual symptoms of the bites. Imagining
thousands of bugs crawling over your skin and sucking on your blood
whilst you sleep is enough to give anyone insomnia, or at the very
least nightmares.
Another brilliant gadget for eradicating bedbugs is the use of a
steam cleaner, just like the ones you use to clean your windows and
upholstery. The intensity of the steam is enough to kill the bedbugs
outright and it provides a thorough clean of the area being steamed in
the process.
Extreme heat and extreme cold are both known to kill bedbugs but
neither is very practical to introduce into a large and complex area,
such as the home. In any case, to be truly sure you have fully
eradicated your residence of every last trace of the bedbugs and their
eggs, you really have no other option than to call in the pest control
professionals. They are highly trained and experienced and can fully
fumigate your home in less than an hour. Click here for further bed bugs information.
